Substack is my Window to the World
So many interesting people and perspectives on here
As I look back at my journey on Substack, it took me seven months to reach 100 subscribers. At twelve months, I was at 250 subscribers. 21 months in, there are 400 readers who are subscribed to me and receiving practical insights on engaging and monetising customers directly to their email inbox.
This article is an opportunity to not only look back at the progress made, but also to take a pause and reflect, and to celebrate success. The latter is something I don’t do enough of, as soon after I have reached a milestone, my attention tends to quickly shift towards the next challenge ahead.
There is real diversity in the readership of this publication, which is now read in 56 countries around the world!
People are reading along from New Zealand in the East, Hawaii (US) in the West, Canada in the North and Chile in the South. The geographical spread is fascinating and humbling to watch, as new readers are slowly popping up in countries around the globe.
It still feels like I am at an early stage of my writing journey, but I hope to have found something that is resonating with people and an activity that is sustainable over the long-term.
In total, I have now written 61 articles which you can find in the archive of this publication. This must be the equivalent of writing a book, or two perhaps.
I wanted to take a moment to say THANK YOU to everyone who is reading and engaging with my content. It is much appreciated and I hope you are finding value in this content. If you have any feedback or content requests for me, feel free to approach me directly (reply to this email), send me a DM on Substack, or leave a comment below.
It has been said that the most important personal performance KPI is a calm nervous system, and I couldn’t agree more. Writing, creating content and building in public can be a nerve wracking experience. When you start out, cringe mountain is difficult to climb, but it gets better over time.
I really enjoy the process of creating and writing, and I’ve had the good fortune of interacting with a number of other talented writers on here. Check out my recommendations section when you get a chance.
Most of the publications I recommend will be writers in adjacent and complementary niches to my own, but there are also a few gems in there that covers different topics entirely. All recommendations are carefully curated, and they got my full endorsement.
Giving the spotlight to others and just my personal style and way of working, but it’s not probably not particularly helpful when it comes to personal marketing. This might be where I need your help actually!
Can you think of anyone else who would be interested in my content and share it with them? Your shares really help to spread awareness of this publication and enable others to find my content.
What’s next for Scaling Customer Value?
I will be going on holiday for a few weeks to recharge my energy and creativity with a much needed dose of Vitamin Sea. This will be a writer’s break for me, and I’ll be back with new content in early August.
I am also working on a few exciting collaborative articles with other writers that I will be introducing to you over the coming weeks and months. Stay tuned!
Until then, I hope you have a great rest of the summer. And in case you are following the world cup, may the best team win! 😉

Build the Repeatable Thing
Every business has work that repeats.
Lead intake.
Follow-up.
Customer onboarding.
Review requests.
Billing.
Build the repeatable thing before chasing the shiny thing.
Enjoy the break, Jens!
